Burlap Re-use Contest… Cast Your Vote! - NEW ENTRIES ADDED

We love that our subscribers are this creative and have this much time on their hands. There are some awfully strong contenders here. We know which ones we like best, but what we think doesn’t actually matter. So tell us what YOU think (vote in the comments). All the contestants will get a little something special and the winner will get a something that’ll make everyone else jealous. If we missed your burlap re-use submission, let us know ASAP.

{UPDATE - June 13, 2006}

We missed a few submissions the first time around. Here are three four more to throw into the voting pool.

Motherduce
“Burlap Beer Cozy”
Beer cozy
Burlap and Bud Light. I don’t know, just seems like they were made for eachother.

Tijs
“Burlap iPod Cover”
iPod cover
This one represents another convergence of two geek passions and makes me feel tingly all over.

FW Sunshine
“Burlap Bandit”
Burlap bandit
I like how this one harkens back to the great train and bank robberies of the old west. Thus further exploiting our inexplicable cowboy theme.

Nick
“Burlap Lap Cover” - View at your own risk, may be offensive
Lap cover
So we spent way too much time here at Valleyschwag going back and forth about whether or not to post this one. In the spirit of free(ish) speech (and full disclosure. ahem) we decided to go ahead and post it, but with plenty of blurring and warnings. That being said, I take absolutely no responsibility for anything to do with this photo other than, that for your sakes, I cropped and pixelated it. If you choose to click through and view the full photo, your are hereby designated a sicko and pervert.

Rick
“GeoBag” — Burlap sewn together to create a cammo bag for geocaching
Geobag
Well done, Rick, well done.
Valleyschwag does not publicly condone nor support the use nor concealing of ammunition

Gary
“Burlap Barbeque Bib”
BBQ Apron
Hey, I know! Let’s go have burgers at Gary’s house. I hear he makes them with a secret ingredient — stray burlap fibers. Yum!

Homard
As you’re about to see, Homard is chock full of burlap re-use ideas…

“Skirt”
Skirt
Burlap skirts… the latest in Parisian Haute Couture. Nice touch with the Rubyred Labs tee! Too bad we’re not the judges…

“Dog Cape”
Doggy Cape
I’m pretty sure this might qualify as animal cruelty. Seriously, it’s BURLAP. Yeah, the pretty blond up above is probably not particularly comfortable either. But she has FREE WILL.

“Wallpaper” (Yes, we’re still on Homard’s creations)
Wallpaper
I don’t know… it looks less like wallpaper and more like a piece of burlap on a wall. But this is idea number three, so we’ll cut you some slack, Homard.

Oren
“Couch Cushion”
Couch cushion
Okay, since I am currently in the market for fabulous throw pillows for my new sofa and don’t own a sewing machine, I love the DIY aspect of this. However, I’m not so sure my cheek would agree. Napping on a down-filled, satin covered pillow vs. napping on burlap. Hmmmmm…. tough choice. Still, we love that we have such a prominent place in Oren’s household. And it even matches the other pillow. Nice.

Heather
“Horse”
Horse
This one just brings tears of joy to my eyes. We’re hoping Heather will make one for us. Pretty please, Heather?? We’ll even send you an extra piece of burlap with the stenciled logo and everything.

Wayne
“Thinking Cap”
Thinking Cap
Again, nice way to integrate the Rubyred Labs shirt. And look, you got a hat out of it too. And you thought all you got was a lousy t-shirt, two buttons, seven stickers and a set of PerplexCity cards. Silly!

Emily
“Schwag On My Couch”
SofaSchwag
Hey, it’s like the doily on the back of grandma’s couch. Only it’s burlap.

Carlos
“Itchiest Dog Blanket Ever”
Itchy Doggy Blanket
Dude, your dog looks pissed. Can’t say that I blame him.

“Schwag for Valleyschwag”
Schwag for Valleyschwag
So, after realizing that his first attempt at schwag re-use was lame, Carlos pulled out all the stops. He returned our burlap chock full of some schwag of his own with a healthy sprinkling of love. Carlos, you already know how we feel.

Michi
“Dog Apparel”
Dog apparel
Okay, people, what is up with the cruel & unusual punishment to your canines? Sure this one is adorable. Really, really adorable. But maybe that has something do to with the “Do you really hate me this much?” look the poor pooch is giving it’s human.

Chris
“Cast Cover”
Cast cover
This one’s great because Chris’s leg has already gotta be itching like nobody’s business. What’s a little burlap on top of a sweaty plaster cast? Happy healing, Chris!

Glen
“Action Figure Bed Cover” - Scully and Mulder in the sack
Action figure bed cover
Um…well…huh.

  1. Doug Says:

    I’m voting for Heather’s site-themed horsey saddle.

  2. Robert Says:

Yep, it’s gotta be that red schwag horse.

  3. szc001 Says:

    most definitely the horse!!

  4. adamszki Says:

I am going to step out of line here and vote for the geocache pouche, as the use seems to be apropriate for burlap and also it does create a connection between two “geeky” passions - schwag and geocaching.

  5. tsn Says:

    the horse is my favorite.

  6. Rikostan Says:

LOL some great ones in the there.. kudos to everybody!
I am torn between the horse and the geocaching bag….
adamszki explained it well. I am going with the bag.

  7. Horb Says:

I’m going to be way out of line and vote “Action Figure Bed Cover”.

That yucky feeling it evokes just screams oscar.

  8. artchick Says:

Gosh, I know it’s so grade school to vote for your own entry. But damn, I did spend numerous hours on that little dude and did have to remove burlap lint from nearly every inch of my body.
I do however appreciate the bag, it has a multitude of uses.
By the way, the horse is on it’s way to San Francisco.
No more burlap needed, as an art teacher I have loads of the stuff!
    Smooches

  9. novachild Says:

Because it’s my birthday, my vote for the horse should count double! It’s so cute!

However, if someone were to make a few cloaks for their old naked Jawa action figures, that might tip the table….

  10. novachild Says:

And notable mention to the skirt…. er, the pretty girl in it, rather.
